Begin it now!

by Elizabeth Cairns on June 11, 2010

Have you ever had that experience of bubbling almost to overflowing with a new idea? The zing of inspiration…the awareness of a dream in technicolour. The thought for one shining glorious moment that “this is it…this is a great idea”.

You see it clearly, there’s an excitement an energy, it’s possible!

I believe this happens to everyone at some time or another and to some of us almost daily and it’s wonderful!  It’s how dreams are made real, new ventures are born, humanity evolves.

What I also see, and experience myself, is what often happens next and that also inspires wonder, but not necessarily the good kind.

It starts with over thinking, planning it out to the nth degree, this kicks in the pragmatist, trailing on his coat tails is doubting Thomas, swiftly followed by the killer blow dealt by the fallen angel of Resistance and we kill it…dead…by inaction, procrastination and self doubt. Leaving in it’s wake only the thought of what might have been and another knock to our fragile psyche.

Later down the line we realise that the idea, that prescious gem was merely on loan to us by the muses, the angels, the great divine spark of genius that saw our potential in that one shining moment. But you see this idea had to be born so it travelled somewhere else, to someone who was not only listening but prepared to act. To see that idea fulfilled in someone elses life may be a wonderful thing, after all it was a great idea wasn’t it?, but to bring it to bear in your own life, how wonderful would that have been?

So in line with the thought for the day currently on my website

“Your don’t have to be great to get started, but you do have to get started to be great”

I leave you with this powerful piece of writing from W.H Murray

“Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills contless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definately commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would not otherwise have occurred. A whole streatm of events isses from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforseen incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man would have dreamed would come his way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe’s couplets: “Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius,m mnagic and power in it. Begin it now.”

Great article and perfectly timed as I was trying to decide whether to take a leap of faith or not. I’ve just leapt! It can be hard to know whether to follow your instinct or your pragmatist with big business decisions and this article really helped. let’s hope lots of people decide to join me on the retreat I’m now running in July. Thanks.

Hooray for leaping! Well done and best of luck with the retreat, do tweet the details.
When we follow our hearts in business we create a working life full of passion and love, what more can we ask for. Especially in our line of work my dear, authenticity is essential. Keep up the great work x

This landed in my in-box at the right time-somehow today I seem to have ground to a halt overwhelmed with a feeling that there is so much to do I don’t know where to start. So it is a consolation to know that it is an age old problem.
SO onwards and upwards.

Thanks Elizabeth,
Great, energising thoughts for this glorious summer day – I was in the procrastination, self-doubt stage – really good at that bit! So – onward and upward…now’s the crucial time to really make connections for my business – and it really is a great idea!

Hi Jo, Sue
Glad it was well timed. If overwhelm is a frequent challenge (as it is for many of us) consider trying Bach Flower Essence of Elm – a few drops in water sipped throughout the day can really help keep things in perspective and restore feelings of being in control. Remember we can only really do one thing at a time so pick one thing to get started on, do that the best way you can and then think about the next thing, doing our best moment by moment is all we can really ask of ourselves.

Promoting your business is definatley worth while Sue, you do such a great job, think of all those want to be students that wouldn’t know where to start without you!

I look forward to catching up with you both soon.
x
